Mobile phones, they used to be held exclusively by yuppies and slick haired city traders but that was a long time again. Now everyone with a pulse has a mobile phone, even your grans phone is better than yours so its probably a good time to upgrade.
Entry Level Phones
If you only need a phone for making a calls and sending the odd text message there is no need to splash out on a high end phone with internet access. There are a number of cheap and simple phones available varying in price from £10 to £70. The Nokia 1616 is a basic hard wearing phone with an easy to use display, other considerations are the Sony Ericsson Spiros if you’d like a slider to protect the keys from accidental dials.
Generally phones in this price range with have pretty basic features and consume little power which leaves you with a long battery life. The cameras are low quality compared to modern megapixel cameras plus use of the internet is quite limited.
Feature Phones
The next step up from the basic phone are cheap smartphones in the £70 to £150 range. Nearly all will have solid 3G internet access, mp3 player inbuilt and medium megapixel camera. The decent sized screens allow you to use the internet much easier, a multitude of apps are also readily available across all the different platforms.
Popular phones in this range are the Samsung Tocco and Nokia Lumia, both have excellent quality cameras and screens. Powerful processors and ram make this feature phones powerful selections.
Smartphones
When you start spending £150+ you’re entering the true smartphone category, there have been major releases in the android category this year so you’ll see some cracking phones. The obvious iPhone has alot of competition from more competitively priced androids and windows phones, they may be cheaper but aren’t lacking in ability.
We recommend a visit to your local phone store for this part, its a great time to get your hands on the latest products and see how they feel and perform in real life. Once you’ve made your decision its time to come home though as deals online are almost always better than local shops.
